In India, there are many divine temples of Lord Krishna such as ISKCON, Sidhivinayak Temple popular for Lord Ganesha and Birla Temples for Lord Lakshmi Narayan. When I was in Jaipur, we left with some time after visiting Nahargarh Fort, So paid a religious visit to Jaipur Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir).

So, in my next travel diary, I am sharing my travel experience of this beautiful temple so that you can also add it in your bucket list of Jaipur.

About Birla Temples in India

Talking about Birla Mandirs, there are 14 Birla temples beautifully created, located in various states of India. These temples in different cities are constructed by the leading industrialist Sh. J.K. Birla and their family. The most prominent ones are Lakshmi Narayan Mandir of Bhopal, Jaipur and Delhi. Two I have visited Bhopal and Jaipur and both are unique in their own ways. Situated at panoramic locations giving the religious and serene vibes to the travellers.

Places to Check on Your Route

Shopping and Food

We travel a lot for reaching Birla Mandir of Jaipur as Nahargarh Fort was on one hand and this temple is on another hand. Between your travel, you will bypass the main pink market of Jaipur, the wholesale market whole as Bapu bazaar.

It is probably famous for tourist shopping and for buying Gotta Patti, Rajasthani Dresses, beautiful leather and traditional bags and Jaipuri boots and traditional jewellery.

Note: Visiting all these in a single day is not possible, especially when you have started your journey late. So, it is recommended from my side that, make a day halt at any resort/lounge or hotel nearby. The reason is mostly all these attraction are open till 7:00 pm maximum.

This is the reason we have only visited Birla temple, which is open till 8:30 pm.

Jaipur Birla Mandir

Address: Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, Jaipur
Visiting Hours: 8.00 am to 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm

To be very honest, if you have to adore the magnificence of this famous Lakshmi Narayan Temple, visiting after dusk is a brilliant idea. Located below Moti Dungri Fort and completely created with White Shining Marble, this temple looks awestruck in dark night. Established in 1988, as per name this Birla Mandir is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his wife Goddess Lakshmi.

Birla Mandir Garden

As we entered the temple, we saw that complex is surrounded by lush gardens loaded with colourful flowers from all sides. And from above, the mountain hills are creating a terrific view for sightseers. This temple varies from other temples and believes in all religions’ equality and the domes are intended to show that. For any tourist, Birla Mandir is a landmark in Jaipur and a must-visit destination.

History of the Birla Temple

According to records, on the land granted to the Birla family by the Maharaja, for only a token amount of one rupee, the Birla temple was built. The B.M Birla Foundation, one of India’s most successful business families, founded this temple in 1988.

To reflect the three religions of India, the Birla Temple has three domes, a tribute to the country’s secular existence. The walls of this fascinating temple are adorned by exquisite carvings of Hindu icons and ancient quotes from the Geeta and Upanishads. Many mythological events engraved on the walls can also be noticed.

In addition to the divine idols, the temple also contains depictions and figures of many religious deities, historical achievers, such as Socrates, Buddha, Zarathustra and Confucius. This temple is truly a modern piece of artwork and reflects architecture brilliance.

Best Time to Visit Jaipur Birla Temple

Between October and March is the perfect time to visit this temple. Guys, we visited this temple in winter so it was quite difficult for us to stroll barefooted on the marble floor. Similarly in scorching summer also, it’s difficult to stand on the floor. We heard that the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated here in the temple with great enthusiasm and grace. So you are localite you can enjoy that. In addition to visiting at regular hours, go out at night, so you can see the remarkably illuminated temple against the dark backdrop.

Nearby Tourist Attractions

Apart from the main temple, the Birla Temple complex comprises a superb museum that portrays the traditional belonging and artefacts of the Birla family and a stunning garden with a shopping complex. Great for visitors who want their experience to be unforgettable they can buy stuff from the complex.

Another prominent Jaipur Temple, the Ganesh Mandir and the Moti Dungri Temple, is located near the Birla temple. So it is up to you if you want to visit them or not. We have not visited due to lack of time as we have to leave early for Kishangarh as soon as possible.

Essential Tips

  • Photography inside the temple is not allowed to maintain the pride of the temple.
  • You have to walk in the garden barefoot as there is a room/space allotted for keeping your shoes and slippers outside the temple complex.
  • Water cooler for drinking and simple taps are there for cleaning your hands and feet are also there.
  • Outside the temple complex, you have to park your vehicle. There are small vendors selling street food outside the gate of the temple. You can taste 5 flavoured water Pani Puri there.
  • The most important fact is, entry to this temple is absolutely free of cost.
  • The city of Jaipur is well connected and one should have no difficulty in reaching the temple.

Concluding here, I have thoroughly enjoyed this religious visit as the ambience is quite tranquil and surrounded by beautiful landscape. Hundreds of devotees visit this temple all day long. This place is sure to help you relax your mind and help you get through the stuff that comes with it.
