Today we will be looking into a WHS that is indeed one of the well-preserved in the entire world. One can visit the place to learn, explore or get to know more about the culture and tradition of the place. Well, am talking about a tiny tomb with much greater significance, the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak?

About The Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak
This historical significance tomb is situated in the city of Kazanlak in the heart of Bulgaria. It was discovered in 1944. However, while investigating more about the place it was discovered that the entire site dated back to the 4th century. And gradually it was learned that the site was from the Hellenistic period. The inside of the tomb has a narrow corridor that leads to the burial ground. The walls of the burial grounds are decorated with beautiful mural paintings. And the best part is the mural paintings are from the 4th century implicating the cultural and religious aspects of burial. And this makes it one of the well-preserved places in the world.

History of Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak
The area of Thracian is all about tomb and burial ground. During the 4th century BC, there was a mass burial ground created in the area. The rituals and the tradition of the place are fascinating. If you want to get a glimpse of the tradition the mural paintings on the walls of the burial ground will give you a detailed glimpse. There are few paintings that show the humanitarian side where a couple is seen sitting holding each other’s hand in times of pain. These pictures fascinated tourists and art lovers alike.
The Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak was listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. And since then a lot of efforts are imparted to keep the land protected.
Protection and management
Mostly in Bulgaria, the World Heritage Site is protected under the Cultural Heritage Law. The motto behind the law is to create awareness, do research and dig into more about the protection of immovable cultural assets. This is more potent for the sites and places registered or inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Like the Tomb of Thracian being inscribed in the WHS, it becomes mandatory to preserve the place.
The timings to visit the tomb and other activities are taken care of by the National Institute of Prevention. One of the major protections is carried out at the national and federal levels. Thus no stone is unturned when it comes to protecting and managing this wonderful site.

Best time to visit the place and other tips
Unlike other World Heritage Sites of Bulgaria, the Tomb of Thracian is opened year-round! Neither the heavy cold nor the hotter summer affects tourism here. Sometimes the interior of the tomb is not accessible to the tourist while is indeed a bit upsetting. However, that may be the result of modification or some patchwork. To avoid such a situation check before starting your travel, and also try to book your entry tickets prior to the visit.

There will be a nominal entry fee for the adults. Student discounts are available. And for kids smaller than 7 years of age, the entry is complexly free. But wait, if you are planning to cut down your budget and looking for a free visit. Then you need to be here on the last Monday of every month!
