About the City of Salzburg

Altstadt Salzburg (Old Town)
The old town in the City of Salzburg is a historically l significant one. The town has several Roman and Bourque-style buildings including the famous 17th century Salzburg cathedrals. The steep path that leads to the fortress is an eye-catcher. People love to take a walk in the streets of the old town which is also known as the maze of the medieval, shop from the street shops and eat their hearts out. Fortress Hohensalzburg
The Hohensalzburg Fortress is a sight worth a watch. It is situated in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town, Austria. The fort stands tall 250 meters height and 150 meters wide to become one of the largest and massive structures of the medieval periods. It is known that the fortress was built for the then-Prince Archbishop of Salzburg.
The construction of this massive castle was started in 1077. And the same year it was opened. However, during the 20th century, the fortress served as a prison holding prisoners of World War I. Well-known German Sculpture Arno Lehmann was jailed here till his death!
St. Peter’s Abbey
St Peter’s Abbey is a 3 min walk from the famous Salzburg Cathedral. It is a famous monastery that stands right in the heart of the city. St Peter’s Abbey was founded in 696, making it one of the oldest living structures in the entire globe. Tourists often visit the Salzburg Cathedral and walk towards St Peter’s Abbey.
